ABOUT US

We are a guild of quilters exploring the world of modern quilting. A small group, dedicated to encouraging, helping, learning, and experiencing all we can from each other along our quilting journey.

We meet as a guild the first Tuesday of every month at 5pm, September through May.  Currently our meetings take place at Anvil Sewing.

The Central Oregon Modern Quilt Guild operates as a 501(c)3 organization as an affiliate member of the Modern Quilt guild, Inc. and will operate within the bylaws of the Modern Quilt Guild, Inc.

Our Purpose

The guild’s purpose is to:

  • Develop and encourage the art of modern quilting,
  • Work with other guilds and groups with a similar purpose,
  • Encourage new quilters and other fiber artists interested in modern quilting,
  • Offer educational opportunities through sharing of information, and
  • Support and provide opportunity for “charity” or other works that provide back to the community through the use of modern quilting skills.

What is Modern Quilting

Modern quilting is defined by the National Modern Quilt Guild, of which we are a member, as such:

“Modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which may help identify a modern quilt.  These include, but are not limited to:  the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work.  “Modern traditionalism” or the updating of classic quilt designs is also often seen in modern quilting”
